Circular Hole Design Recommendations

Straight Holes

  • General Tolerance Holes (Straight Holes)
Holes without specified tolerances (general precision) are typically referred to as "straight holes."

    • For non-precision straight holes (drilled):
      • Recommended hole diameter: ≤ Φ20mm.
      • Recommended depth: ≤ 10 times the drill diameter.
    • For straight holes with a diameter > Φ20mm (milled):
      • Recommended depth: ≤ 4 times the milling cutter diameter.
  • Precision Holes

    • For precision holes with a diameter ≤ Φ20mm:
      • Typically finished with a reamer, with a recommended depth of ≤ 5 times the hole diameter.
    • For precision holes with a diameter > Φ20mm:
      • Processed using milling or boring tools, with a recommended depth of ≤ 80mm.

To specify a precision hole in the 3D design interface, you can double-click the hole specification to add tolerances. Side surfaces can also be set to a surface roughness of Ra1.6 (Rz6.3).

Threaded Holes

For coarse or fine-threaded holes, the recommended effective thread depth is generally ≤ 3 times the nominal diameter.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that hole designs meet manufacturing feasibility while maintaining optimal performance and precision.
